Weight Loss Surgery (Bariatric Surgery)
Bariatric surgery, a term that comes from the Greek words “baros” (meaning weight) and “iatrikos” (meaning medicine), refers to a group of surgical procedures used to support significant weight loss and improve health in individuals with obesity.
Obesity is a true disease and bariatric surgery is designed to treat obesity. Bariatric surgery is not recommended for everyone who is overweight. However, it may be an option if you are obese and have not been able to lose weight, or if you have other medical conditions that are related to being obese like high blood pressure, high cholesterol, arthritic joint diseases, and diabetes.
